If you have not played any Paradox games before, I honestly have no idea which game would be simpler. You are not really forced to pause Paradox games, but it is highly recommended or you will quickly lose control and drown into multiple events happening around the world. Notice that all the countries move same time, there is no "turns" like some other games use, where country A moves the troops and does other stuff, and then the order goes to country B who moves and does their stuff, and you have to wait until every other country has finished. Once you unpause, they all start to advance again. While paused, you can issue orders and buy stuff and upgrade stuff but everything is frozen - battles, improvement building, movement. ![]() All Paradox games (EU4, HoI, CK2) use same time system - everything runs same time in real time but the game can be paused at any moment.
